  15. law; in Cambridge, Mass. Freund, who taught at Harvard Law
  16. School for 37 years, helped sensitize generations of lawyers to
  17. the Constitution's protection of individual liberties. When
  18. Freund passed up the opportunity to become the U.S. Solicitor
  19. General in favor of scholarship, President John F. Kennedy
  20. replied, "I'm sorry. I hoped you would prefer making history to
  21. writing it."
